Nalaina's brother Aaron came to visit us for a few days this week. He, his wife and their son live in Nebraska, and they couldn't all come, but it was great to have Aaron here with us. He & Zaida got a chance to bond and he was a lot of help.

Uncle Aaron's shoulder sure is comfortable!
We were sad to see him leave today. Thanks for coming out, Aaron! (And thanks for letting him come, Shana!)
"Thanks for hanging out with me, Uncle Aaron"
Well, we've been home for about 3 days now and it's been interesting. Already we've had to do a load of laundry to deal with all the dirty burp rags and receiving blankets. Mostly, Zaida just eats, sleeps and poops. And she poops a lot! She's been sleeping really well…during the day. At night, however, it's a completely different story. Our little girl is quite the night owl. But we know she'll eventually get to the point of sleeping through the night.
We also gave Zaida her first bath yesterday. She did NOT like that! She's pretty sure we tried to kill her.
She did like washing the hair, though!
And the finished product is cute, too!
As promised, we have pictures of our little one. We'll put a couple here. You can find the rest by clicking either the "Harpers Nest photos" or "Our Flickr page" links on the right hand side of the page.

After much deliberation (9 months & a day) we have chosen a name for our beautiful little girl:
Zaida Anne Harper
We came up with it a few weeks ago, but we wanted to wait a little and let it settle. And now that she’s here, we think it fits her.
So now it’s official.
The newest little Harper made her debut appearance tonight (January 10th) at 9:23 pm. She is 6 lbs, 6 oz and 20.51" long. Oh yeah, and she has red, curly hair. And skinny little chicken legs. Mom & baby are both doing great. Nalaina was amazing. She worked all day and we went to see Dr. Kaminskas for our weekly appointment. Much to our surprise, we found out that Nalaina was ready to go, so we were admitted to the hospital immediately (around 4:30 pm) and 5 hours later we had a little girl. We haven't quite decided on a name yet, but we will probably do that tonight. So check back tomorrow for that news. And we have tons of pictures, which we will upload when we get home from the hospital on Friday. Until then, check back here for more news.
Lots of movement and activity within the last few minutes. They’ve gotten the baby warmer ready and the contractions are starting to be more intense and frequent. But Nalaina’s still doing amazingly well.
We’re definitely getting closer.
This is Steve again. Nalaina’s doing really, really well. She’s at 8.5 cm now, but the baby still hasn’t descended too far. But unless something goes wrong, the newest Harper will be born before midnight. Our friends Chris & Susan are here at the hospital with us right now and our other friends Chris & Vicki should be here shortly.
Check back here for more as we go.
This is Chris Nelson- Steve and Nalaina's geeky friend with a newsflash-
Steve just told me that Nalaina is at 5 cm and 100% effaced- so the baby is a-comin!
Hooray!
